The main differences are size and regulation. Residential gutters are typically 5-inch or 6-inch K-style or half-round systems. Commercial gutters are usually 7-inch or larger box-style systems designed to handle the massive water runoff from flat warehouse roofs. Commercial systems must also adhere to specific building codes regarding overflow and drainage capacity.

Seamless gutters are fabricated from a single piece of aluminum on-site. Traditional "sectional" gutters have seams every 10 feet, which are the primary failure points for leaks and debris snags.
